HAG Capisco Chair Loved For Design Features

The Hag Capisco chair was designed by Peter Opsvik, and is alternatively called a saddle chair for the way the design resembles a horse saddle. Opinions are divided on the looks of the chair, but those who appreciate it do so for its design features. The chair is designed to be sat in forward, backward and sideways, and is also built to provide a large number of different sitting positions. This is particularly appreciated by folks who must sit for long periods of time and benefit from the change in body position while doing so.

According to the designer, the chair encourages the body to move while seated, and it encourages the body to move in creative, alternative ways, which reduces the stresses places on small areas of the body by sitting too long in the same position.

One Chair, Many Varieties

The chair is available in three different configurations. You can get just the seat, the seat and the back, or with the seat, the back and a headrest. Each of these versions comes in three pneumatic lift options, include the 150mm (which is a seat height of 16.124” – 21.625”), the standard 200mm (seat height of 19”-26”, and the 265mm (seat height of 22.5”-31.875”). Additional custom options are available, including a headrest, a step or a footring. Each of these options increases the possible number of seating positions available with the chair.

The chair comes in a very wide variety of fabric options; 165 in total. And if you don’t like the saddle seat version, it also comes in flat seat version. The chair can be adjusted by seat depth, seat height, back height, tilt tension backward, and a three-position tilt lock.

Capisco A High-Priced Option

The standard chair is designed for use with work surfaces that are 29.5” or higher. The chair retails at around $1,200, so it is not likely to be found in great quantities throughout offices everywhere. However, the chair can be found online at about half the price; still out of reach for the typical office budget, but a little closer to the highly popular aeron chair. Whatever the case, HAG does warranty the product for five years. The warranty covers both the chair itself and any fabric on the chair, though it naturally excludes normal wear and tear. There is a lifetime warranty on the gas lifts, and HAG guarantees delivery of spare parts for 10 years.

This chair might not be as widely appreciated as the famous aeron with which it is competing for market share. But it does offer a very unique look, a very wide variety of styling and seating options, and if you like to have a chair that encourages you to move around a little from time to time, this is a good bet.
